Taking place weekly at the famed Green Mill (https://greenmilljazz.com) in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, this video was compiled from audio recorded at the event and photos taken by photographer Sarah Elizabeth Larson.

She came up with a unique product: Temperamental. It was all over the place in the scent department. I mean it had hints of Roses, Moscato and Bruised Banana. It didn't take off at the time and we lost of money. But we did get some distribution in the Midwest. The commercials were pioneering though, so we dug 'em up out of the archive for your viewing pleasure.

Montgomery Ward tried to talk us out of it. We wouldn't be dissuaded. Betti felt passionately that middle American gals would love her scent if only they'd give it a try. Unfortunately, we could only afford a time slot toward the end of the game. The game was a blow out by the Chicago Bears, and people barely watched the rest of the game, particularly our key perfume demographic, ladies in the 40-80 year old range. We swung for the fences with this one. Was it a failure? Yes. Was it a mistake? Absolutely. Would we do it again? Probably. Love, Betti & Bruce

Back in the late 70s, Bruce had his own radio show from 7pm till midnight called: The Quiet Balm. It never caught on beyond upstate NY. But the birth rate in the area did go up that year.
